Blue Jeans Video Conferencing Review

29th April 2015 | Mark

Blue Jeans is a cloud-based BYOD (bring your own device) video conferencing service that enables people all over the world to connect at any time, from any device and any place. Blue Jeans say they believe every phone call should be a video call and they are designing the technology to make it happen. The Blue Jeans service enables multi-vendor interoperability. The service supports numerous platforms such as Skype, Polycom, Cisco Jabber, Lync, there are Android and Apple apps available for phone and tablet, users can even connect and interact with conference calls using just their web browser. The system is cloud based and can pull all supported platforms together seamlessly so there is no need for expensive infrastructure or wasted IT time setting up calls. On their mobile page Blue Jeans say, "Schedule on the fly, join via meeting ID and start your personal meeting – all through your Blue Jeans mobile app." I have used Blue Jeans to communicate with Joel, David and Steven at Interact on several occasions and this is my honest review. I don't like Skype and try not to use it unless I have to so when I speak to the Interact team I connect to the conference call using my web browser, I usually use Chrome as my browser but chrome and Firefox both seem to require an extension which I can't be bothered to install so I connect to calls using Internet Explorer. Connecting to the Blue Jeans call using Internet Explorer is easy, one of the Interact team just sends me an email invitation which I can easily schedule with Outlook or Thunderbird if I need a reminder before the meeting starts, I just click the link and it takes me straight to the meeting. When I speak with Interact they are usually in their office but we have had seamless calls when one of them has been in a different location before. With Blue Jeans up to  100 different people, in different locations and on different platforms can all connect at once. On their Blue Jeans page Interact say there is no need to worry about intruders hacking into your meeting,  "the Blue Jeans solution offers a completely secure and private platform." Once connected to the call Interact and I can share screens, talk face to face about detailed changes to their site, type messages and even share files. I like the Blue Jeans solution and find that it enables me to quickly and easily connect with the team at Interact, anyone interested in trying the solution can take a free 14 day trial via Interact's Blue Jeans page.
